Suspect Arrested, Charged in Man's Death at 7800 Detroit

November 21, 2013 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of a man at 7800 Detroit about 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 19).

The suspect, John A. Kamenicky (w/m, DOB: 11-26-74), is charged with murder in the 232nd State District Court.  A photo of Kamenicky is attached to this news release.

The victim, Mark Ellis, 60, of the above address, was pronounced dead at the scene.  An autopsy by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined Mr. Ellis had been beaten and strangled.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Murdock and Officer K. McDonald reported:

HPD patrol officers were called to the scene after a relative of Mr. Ellis found him dead in his apartment.  

Further investigation identified Ellis' roommate, Kamenicky, as a suspect in this case and, on Wednesday (Nov. 20), he was taken into custody without incident.
