Suspect Arrested in Traffic Accident at 5000 South Loop East

September 23, 2013 - Charges are pending against a suspect arrested in a traffic accident at 5000 South Loop East (South Interstate Highway 610) service road about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 22).

The suspect, Jose Eliseo Guevara-Palma (H/m, DOB: 1-18-86), faces charges of intoxication assault.  A photo of Guevara-Palma is not available until formal charges are filed.

One male victim, 46, suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital and a female victim, 32, was hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant C. Nickerson and Officer K. Hines reported:

The male victim was driving a red Mitsubishi Montero eastbound on the South Loop East service road when his vehicle jumped a curb onto the freeway and lost control.  The vehicle struck a retaining wall and ended up on its driver's side.  Several witnesses arrived to render aid to the driver.  At that time, the driver (Guevera-Palma) of a green Toyota Previa struck the Montero and knocked the vehicle into one of the witnesses, a female.  The driver of the Montero was transported to the hospital in critical condition.  The female was also taken to the hospital.  Guevara-Palma was taken into custody and is facing charges in the accident.
