April 14, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 6700 South Freeway (South State Highway 288) about 10:45 p.m. on Saturday (April 13).
The identity of the male victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roberts and Officer R. Veal reported:
An HPD officer, C. James, assigned to the Major Offender's Division, was off-duty and in an unmarked city vehicle, a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck, southbound on the South Freeway. As the officer approached the Old Spanish Trail exit, he struck a pedestrian (victim), who for unknown reasons, was attempting to cross the freeway. The victim was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Officer James was not injured in the accident.
The investigation is continuing.
