Fatal Traffic Accident at 7200 Southwest Freeway

December 1, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 7200 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 7:45 a.m. last Friday (Nov. 28).

The male victim, 30, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer J. Best reported:

The victim was driving a white Nissan Altima when, for unknown reasons, he stopped in a moving lane of traffic on the Southwest Freeway. The Nissan was parked on the downside of an overpass, making it difficult for other drivers to see the vehicle. The driver of a black Jeep Liberty then struck the Altima, causing it to catch fire. The driver of the Jeep, who showed no signs of intoxication, and a child passenger were transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital with minor injuries. The passenger of the Nissan was also transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition.

The investigation is continuing.
