Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Man's 2013 Death at 8900 Ramin

December 19, 2014 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the death of a man found at 8900 Ramin about 4:30 a.m. on August 17, 2013.

The suspect, Arturo Uriostegui (H/m, 20), is charged with murder in the 351st State District Court. A photo of Uriostegui is attached to this release.

Uriostegui is accused in the killing of Federico Barraza-Esquivel, 55, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Odom and Senior Police Officer M. Coleman reported:

Mr. Barraza-Esquivel was driving a black Chevrolet pickup truck that appeared to have been involved in an earlier accident at an unknown location. For unknown reasons, Barraza-Esquivel stopped a short distance from his residence and got into in an altercation with an unknown suspect or suspects. During the disturbance, the passenger window of his pickup truck was broken. Barraza-Esquivel then backed the vehicle down the street and into a ditch. He left his vehicle and then began walking toward his residence. While walking, Barraza-Esquivel was struck and killed by an unknown vehicle driven by an unknown driver. The driver then fled the scene.

Witnesses driving southbound on Ramin found the victim lying in the street and called 9-1-1. HFD paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced him dead.

Further investigation identified Uriostegui as a suspect in this case and, on Thursday (Dec. 18), he was arrested without incident.
