Fatal Traffic Accident at 3400 South Freeway

December 22, 2014 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 3400 South Freeway (State Highway 288 South) about 2:20 a.m. on Sunday (Dec. 21).

The identity of the male victim, 29, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer T. Tran reported:

The victim was driving a black Toyota Camry northbound on the South Freeway when he failed to drive in a single lane and struck a steel retainer wall at a high rate of speed. Heavy steel debris from both the vehicle and the retaining wall was then projected onto the northbound lanes, striking a white Toyota Corolla, also traveling north on the freeway.

The driver of the Camry was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Corolla was transported to Memorial Herman Hospital in serious condition.
