Suspects Arrested, Charged in Incident at 10516 Katy Freeway

January 14, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect who fired a shot at officers at 10516 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 12:30 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 12).

The suspect, Nectaly Castillo (H/m, DOB: 2-1-91), is charged with aggravated assault against a public servant in the 232nd State District Court.

A second suspect, Mario Eddie Torres (H/m, DOB: 10-21-90) is charged with robbery causing bodily injury in the 338th State District Court. Photos of Torres and Castillo are not available at this time.

HPD Officer D. Dexter, who discharged his duty weapon in this incident, was not hurt.  He was sworn in as an officer in August 2000 and is assigned to the Special Crimes Division.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer R. Nunez and Officer T.S. Miller reported:

Two uniformed HPD officers were working an extra job at a sports bar at the above location when they observed a robbery in the parking lot.  The robbery suspect (Torres) then fled on foot.  Upon approaching the dark Cadillac sedan Torres had been in, one officer observed the driver had a gun.  The driver (suspect Castillo) started to drive away, stopped the vehicle and fired a single shot at the officers.  Officer Dexter, fearing for his safety and that of his partner, returned fire, discharging his duty weapon one time.  Castillo then fled the scene.  He and Torres were apprehended by HPD patrol officers a short distance away.

No one was hurt in this incident.

As is customary in incidents in which an HPD officer discharges his weapon within the city limits, this case will be investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
