HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. A. Holbrook and Officer V. McLean reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an apartment complex at the above address regarding a disturbance.  When officers arrived, they learned Kosmetatos and his estranged girlfriend had gotten into a domestic dispute.  As officers attempted to resolve the dispute, Kosmetatos, armed with a knife, suddenly lunged at officers in an attempt to stab them.  Officers attempted to disarm Kosmetatos and a struggle ensued.  Fearing for his life and the life of his fellow officer, Officer Woods discharged his duty weapon and wounded Kosmetatos.

As officers attempted to take Kosmetatos into custody, he continued to be combative, but was eventually taken into custody.  He was then transported to the hospital to be treated for his wounds.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions and the Harris County District Attorney's Office.
