Suspect Arrested, Charged in Male's Death at 9302 Saddle Lane

June 19, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 9302 Saddle Lane about 4 a.m. on Wednesday (June 18).

The suspect, Mercedes Mejia (H/m, 30), is charged with murder in the 232nd State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Jose Ramon Garcia, 50, of the above address. Mr. Garcia suffered blunt force trauma and stab wounds and died at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant W. Elsbury and Senior Police Officer R. Martinez reported:

According to witnesses who live at the residence at the above address, Mr. Garcia got into an argument with Mejia. Witnesses told police they then saw Mejia produce a large kitchen knife, but did not see him stab Garcia. Further investigation and evidence in Mejia's room determined he was responsible for Garcia's death. Mejia was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
