HPD Rolls Out Spring Break "Wave" Initiative

March 6, 2014 - Starting TODAY (Thursday, March 6) through March 23, the Houston Police Department Traffic Enforcement Division will kick off the Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) Spring Break "Wave" initiative in various areas throughout the city.

Additional officers will be deployed at high-risk locations around the Houston area to conduct DWI enforcement efforts during times that alcohol-related crashes are most frequent.  Primary emphasis will be placed on increasing DWI arrests in an attempt to reduce drunk-driving fatalities.  There will be an increased law enforcement presence to ensure everyone enjoys Spring Break in a responsible manner.

All motorists are reminded that the "No Refusal" program with mandatory blood draws is still 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Please do the right thing and have a designated driver, or call a taxi cab to take you home.  If you drive under the influence, HPD will take you to jail.

At 11 a.m. TODAY (Thursday, March 6), an officer from the HPD Traffic Enforcement Division will be available to answer questions regarding this initiative in the front steps of the HPD Central Patrol Station at 61 Reisner.
