March 6, 2014 - Houston police have arrested a third suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 9489 Pagewood about 12:15 a.m. on July 7, 2013.
The suspect, Malcolm Willis Patterson (b/m, 25), is charged with murder in the 180th State District Court. Darryl Cooper (b/m, 27) and Kendrick Monroe (b/m, 23) are also charged with murder in the same court. Photos of Patterson, Cooper and Monroe are attached to this news release.
The victim, Jelani Simmonds, 29, of the above address, was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Williams and Officer J. Horn reported:
Tenants of a townhome community at the above address heard several gunshots and found the Mr. Simmonds a short time later. HFD paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Simmonds deceased.
Further investigation developed information that idenitifed Monroe as the suspect in this case. He was arrested on Aug. 13, 2013 without incident. The investigation also identified Cooper as a suspect and he was arrested last Thursday (Feb. 27). Investigators charged Patterson on Monday (March 3) in this case. Patterson is currently in custody at a Texas Department of Corrections facility on unrelated charges.
