Houston Police Department
Statement on Investigation into Death of Jason Lewis

May 2, 2014 - The Houston Police Department reached out earlier today to Randall Kallinen regarding the death of Mr. Jason Lewis.  Mr. Kallinen was invited to review evidence obtained and what eyewitnesses told investigators had occurred.  He refused HPD’s request to meet.  We regret Mr. Kallinen’s attempt to use false and inaccurate information to sensationalize such a tragic event.

As is standard procedure in incidents such as this, the case is being actively investigated by the Houston Police Department’s Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.  Although those investigations are ongoing, witnesses and HFD paramedics who were present when the incident occurred have consistently given statements supporting the information provided in HPD’s April 17 news release.

This matter remains under investigation and we ask any witnesses who have not come forward to contact the Houston Police Department.

Chief Charles A. McClelland, Jr.
