UPDATE: Suspect Charged in 2013 Fatal Shooting at 8791 Hammerly

May 27, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man at 8791 Hammerly about 7:15 p.m. on June 29, 2013.  

The suspect, Quincy Lewis Gibbs (b/m, 31), is charged with murder in 263rd State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Nelson Garcia, 34, of the above address.  A photo of suspect Gibbs, who is currently in the Harris County jail on an unrelated robbery charge, is attached to this news release.  

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer C. Scales and Officer T. Ferguson reported:  

Mr. Garcia was found deceased inside his residence.  He had been shot several times.  A preliminary investigation determined Garcia was shot by two male suspects, who then fled the scene in separate directions.  Investigators also recovered narcotics at the scene.  

Further investigation and evidence from the scene developed information that identified Gibbs as a suspect in this case.  He was subsequently charged on May 24 for his role in Garcia's death.
