Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 17300 Artwood

May 28, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 17300 Artwood about 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday (May 27).

The suspect, Patrick Smith (b/m, 25), is charged with murder out of the Fort Bend County District Attorney's Office.  Smith, who is in custody in the Fort Bend County jail, is accused in the killing of Jamaal Foster, 33, of Houston, who died at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. McStravick and Senior Police Officer T. Andrade reported:

Mr. Foster and Smith, who were long-time acquaintances, saw each other in the neighborhood and stopped to talk.  Foster told Smith he was going to stop by Smith's house.  Smith returned home and Foster then drove to Smith's residence.  As Foster approached Smith in his driveway, Smith told Foster to leave and showed him a shotgun.  Feeling Foster was not complying with his demand, Smith shot him several times.  Smith was then taken into custody and subsequently charged.
