Investigation into Incident at 3900 Fuqua

November 17, 2014 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which a Harris County Precinct 7 deputy constable discharged his duty weapon at a suspect at 7900 Fuqua at 1 p.m. on Friday (November 16).

The suspect, Ricky Cooper, was wanted on four felony warrants.

The Precinct 7 deputy constable, who discharged his weapon at Cooper, was not injured in this incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Straughter and Officer S. Sylvester reported:

The deputy constable arrived at 13438 Cullen in his marked vehicle and attempted to serve four felony warrants on Cooper.  Upon seeing the deputy, Cooper fled on foot into a wooded area behind the Cullen location.  The deputy, along with other Precinct 7 deputies, pursued the suspect into the wooded area, also on foot.  The deputy briefly lost sight of Cooper in the heavily wooded area.  The deputy was alone when the suspect approached him in an aggressive manner and caught the deputy off-guard.  The deputy was able to back up, draw his firearm and then discharge the weapon, striking Cooper.  Cooper was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in stable condition where he is being treated for his wounds.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, the HPD Homicide Division and Harris County District Attorney's Office are investigating this incident.
