Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Traffic Accident at 700 Link Road

October 3, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal hit-and-run traffic accident at 700 Link Road about 11:10 p.m. last Saturday (September 27).

The suspect, Eduardo Luna Torres (H/m, 30), is charged with failure to stop and render aid involving death in the 230th State District Court. He is accused for his role in the death of Jose Benjamin Mendez-Manzano, 63.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant T. Trometer and Officer J. Best reported:

Mr. Mendez-Manzano was riding a bicycle westbound on Link Road when he was struck by a pickup truck of an unknown make or model. The driver of the pickup, also traveling westbound, did not stop and fled the scene. Mendez-Manzano was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses later told investigators the suspect was driving a red truck.

Days after the accident, the suspect (Torres) contacted investigators and stated he was driving a red Ford F-150 that struck the bicyclist. Torres was arrested without incident and subsequently charged.
