UPDATE: Suspect Identified, Charged in 2006 Fatal Shooting at 8655 Pitner

September 16, 2014 - Charges have been filed against a suspect in the March 2006 fatal shooting of a man at 8655 Pitner.

The suspect, Dewitt Madison (b/m, 31), is charged with murder in the 208th State District Court for his role in the killing of Alvin Cordier, 42, of the above address.  Madison is in custody in New Orleans, Louisiana.  A photo of Madison is attached to this news release.

HPD Homicide Division Senior Police Officer M. Kral of the Cold Case Unit reported:

Officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex at the above address about 2:50 a.m. on March 31, 2006 and found Mr. Cordier lying on the ground on the back parking lot.  He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no known witnesses nor suspect(s) in the shooting incident.

While conducting a cold case review, a witness and suspect were identified.  After interviewing the witness, new information was received to obtain a murder charge against Dewitt Madison.  Madison, a resident of New Orleans, was located in the Orleans Parish Prison and was charged last Friday (Sept. 12) with Cordier's murder. 

The motive in the shooting involved a debt related to a narcotics transaction between the two men.
