Investigation into Incident at 3608 Crane Street

August 25, 2015 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an HPD officer discharged his duty weapon at 3608 Crane Street about 11:55 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 21).

Officer J. Babineaux was not injured in this incident.  He was sworn in as an HPD officer in July 2006 and is assigned to the Northeast Patrol Division.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant K. Tolls and Officer R. Cervantes reported:

Sometime between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., three individuals were involved in a physical altercation inside the "Love Show Time" club at the above address.  All three were then asked to leave the club which they did.  One man, 51, remained outside the club because his vehicle was blocked in.  About 10:30 p.m., Officer Babineaux arrived at the club to work an approved extra job.  Officer Babineaux was approached by the man, who described what had happened earlier.  A short time later, a black or dark blue small four-door sedan driving eastbound on Crane Street stopped in front of the club.  Someone inside the sedan then began shooting toward the man.  Officer Babineaux, who was standing nearby, took cover behind a vehicle and returned fire.  The driver of the sedan then fled eastbound on Crane Street.  Neither Officer Babineaux nor the citizen were injured.  It is unknown if anyone in the vehicle was struck.

As is customary in incidents in which an HPD officer discharges a weapon at a suspect, this case will be investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
