Investigation into Infant's Death at 11402 Riverwood



December 7, 2015 - Houston police are awaiting autopsy results in the death of an infant boy found unresponsive at 11402 Riverwood about 6 a.m. on Sunday (Dec. 6).

The victim, Mateo Vargas, three days old, was pronounced dead at West Houston Medical Center.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Murdock and Senior Police Officer B. Evans reported:

Baby Mateo and his mother were released from Ben Taub General Hospital about 2 p.m. on Saturday (Dec. 5).  During the evening hours, the mother said the baby became fussy and restless and was having difficultly eating.  The mother reported the baby developed difficulty in breathing about 6 a.m. the following day and was rushed to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
