Suspect Charged in Child's Death at 1119 Gregg



December 22, 2015 - A suspect is charged in the death of a child that occurred at 1119 Gregg about 11:20 a.m. on August 23.

The suspect, Darrell Wayne Williams (b/m, 50), is charged with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury in the 174th State District Court. A photo of Williams is attached to this news release.

Williams is accused in the death of his grandson, Danzel Marshall, Jr., 2 years old.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant H. Garcia and Senior Police Officer R. Nunez reported:

On August 23, Danzel Marshall was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  The initial investigation revealed he suffered from Sickle Cell disease. 

However, autopsy results from the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences revealed Denzel had also suffered blunt force trauma and his cause of death was ruled as hemoglobin Sickle Cell disease, exacerbated by dehydration and blunt force trauma. 

Additional investigation revealed Williams caused the injuries to the boy after striking and pushing him.  Charges were filed on December 14 and Williams has since posted bond and is awaiting his next court appearance.
