Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 2500 Gulf Freeway

January 6, 2015 - Houston police are investigating a fatal traffic accident at 2500 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 9:30 p.m. on Monday (January 5).  

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Rossman and Officer M. Pritchard reported:  

The driver of a white 2006 Jaguar stopped in a moving lane of traffic on the Gulf Freeway, believing he had a flat tire.  The driver of a maroon Mini Cooper, traveling northbound on the Gulf Freeway, braked to avoid striking the Jaguar.  The driver of a black 2012 Ford Expedition, also traveling northbound, was unable to stop and struck the rear of the Mini Cooper.   The vehicle continued for a short distance before coming to a stop.  The driver of the Mini Copper died at the scene.  The driver of the Expedition, who remained at the scene, was not impaired.  He was questioned and released.
