UPDATE: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 4200 Mallow

January 22, 2015 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 4200 Mallow about 11 p.m. on Jan. 3.

The suspect, Elijah Monroe McQueen (b/m, 19), is charged with murder in the 208th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of Desmond Jamal Steen, 21, who died at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Burton and M. Brady reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address.  Upon arrival, they found Mr. Steen lying in the street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.  HFD personnel were called to the scene and pronounced him deceased.  Witnesses reported Steen and an unknown black male were involved in a disturbance prior to the shooting.  After witnesses heard the gunshots, they saw the black male flee on foot.

Further investigation identified McQueen as the suspect in this case.  He was subsequently charged in this case and on Wednesday (January 21), he was taken into custody without incident.
