HPD Homicide Division Sergeant B. Harris and Senior Police Officer M. Waters II reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a report of a natural death at the above address.  Cormier told officers she and Mr. Mitchell had been drinking the night before, had a disagreement, but then made up.  Cormier stated they went to bed but Mitchell got up because he couldn't sleep.  Cormier then told police she woke up about 5 a.m. and found Mitchell sitting in a chair, unresponsive.  At that time, there were no apparent wounds found on Mitchell.

An autopsy was performed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences and it was determined his cause of death was due to a small puncture wound in his chest area.  Further investigation determined Cormier was the suspect in this case and she was subsequently charged.  She was taken into custody on Saturday (January 24) and has admitted to her involvement in Mitchell's death.
