Investigation into Fatal Crash at 11298 Clay Road


July 22, 2015 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 11298 Clay Road about 5:45 a.m. today.

The male victim, 50, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Lopez and Officer K. Heaverlo reported:

An HPD motorcycle officer, escorting an oversized yellow crane, stopped all traffic at the intersection of Clay Road and the North Sam Houston Parkway East service road.  As the crane was proceeding northbound through the intersection, the driver of a silver Dodge Caravan, traveling westbound on Clay Road, struck the front boom of the crane.  The victim, a rear seat passenger in the minivan, was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver and two other passengers were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the crane was not injured in this crash.
