Investigation into Fatal Crash at 6500 Southwest Freeway

June 26, 2015 - Houston police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash that occurred at 6500 Southwest Freeway (South U. S. Highway 59) about 1:20 a.m. today.


The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Lee and Officer J. Crisler reported:

The driver of a tractor-trailer truck was traveling northbound on the Southwest Freeway and struck a pedestrian. The driver later called police and said he believed he hit something on the freeway and the tire had blown out. The driver pulled over, found nothing wrong or unusual and continued to the truck station on Interstate Highway 610 East and McCarty Road. He saw transmission fluid leaking, found blood under the vehicle and then called police.

The driver, who showed no apparent signs of intoxication, was questioned and released.
