Investigation into Fatal Traffic Accident at 13000 South Freeway

March 11, 2014 - Houston police are investigating the fatal traffic accident at 13000 South Freeway (North U.S. Highway 288) that occurred about 7:40 p.m. on Tuesday (March 10).  

The female victim, Hop Vu, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Dukes and Officer B. Mark reported: 

The driver (suspect) of a white Mazda MX-9 was traveling northbound on the South Freeway and weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed.  Traffic on the freeway then slowed due to a traffic accident.  The suspect was unable to stop and struck the rear of a black Acura TI.  The impact caused the Acura to then strike a red Volkswagen Jetta.  The Mazda also struck a black Honda Accord after the initial accident.  Ms. Vu, a rear passenger in the Acura, was pronounced dead.  The driver of the Acura was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital in an unknown condition.  The front passenger of the Acura and the driver of the Jetta were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.  All were transported for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.  The driver of the Accord was uninjured.  The suspect then fled on foot.
