Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 1703 Staff Sgt. Macario Garcia

May 1, 2015 - The fatal shooting of a robbery suspect at 1703 Staff Sgt. Macario Garcia about 8:20 a.m. on Thursday (April 30) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.  

The identity of the male suspect, who died at Ben Taub General Hospital, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

The male shooter, 59, was not injured in the incident.  

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Burton and M. Brady reported:  

The male employee (shooter) of a check cashing business at the above address was in the process of opening the business for the day.  As he walked from his vehicle to the front door, he was approached by a male suspect armed with a gun.  The suspect then placed the gun to the employee's head and grabbed a small nylon bag the employee was carrying.  Fearing for his life, the employee pulled a gun he was carrying, turned and fired several times, striking the suspect.  HFD paramedics responded to the scene and transported the suspect to the hospital.
 
The bag the employee was carrying contained medications.
