Investigation into Fatal Crash at 17300 Eastex Freeway


August 8, 2016 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 17300 Eastex Freeway (North Interstate Highway 59) at about 3:25 p.m. on Sunday (August 7).

The identity of the victim is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kopulos and Officer N. Luu reported:

The driver of a white Chevrolet Blazer was traveling northbound on Highway 59 when he failed to maintain a single lane, possibly due to a tire blow-out, and lost control of the vehicle.  The vehicle veered off the freeway and rolled over onto the service road.  The victim, a passenger, was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.  Another adult male victim was transported by Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital.  The driver, an adult male, and two additional passengers, an adult female and a juvenile male, were all transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital in unknown conditions.

The investigation is continuing.
