Update: Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 5000 Bennington
August 9, 2016 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 5000 Bennington about 6:45 p.m. on July 31.
The suspect, Derrick Patterson (b/m, 22), is charged with murder in the 184th State District Court. He is accused in the killing of Foronado Murphy, 19, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Officers C. Hogue and T. Miller reported:
Mr. Murphy was driving on Bennington near the above address when another male who was known to him (Patterson) pulled alongside. Both men got into an argument and, at some point, Murphy was shot. Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Murphy deceased.
Further investigation and witness statements positively identified Patterson as the suspect in this case. He was subsequently charged for his role in Murphy's death and is in custody in the Harris County jail.
