Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 8100 Eastex Freeway



February 15, 2016 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 8100 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 9:45 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 14).

The suspect, Adrian Hernandez (H/m, 26), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 339th State District Court.  A photo of Hernandez is not available at this time.

The male victim, 31, was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Rossman and Officer R. Bymaster reported:

The suspect, Hernandez, was driving a silver Pontiac Grand Prix southbound on the Eastex Freeway at the above address when he struck a white Ford F-350 pickup truck also traveling southbound in an adjacent lane. The Pontiac then crossed five lanes of traffic and struck the victim, who was standing outside his vehicle on the freeway shoulder assisting a disabled motorist.

The suspect, Hernandez, was transported to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  He was evaluated by an HPD DWI Task Force officer and found to be intoxicated.

The investigation is continuing.
