Investigation into Incident at 1807 West 43rd Street

January 20, 2016 - Houston police are investigating an incident in which an off-duty Harris County Sheriff's deputy discharged his weapon at robbery suspects at 1807 West 43rd Street about 10:50 p.m. on Tuesday (January 19).

The suspects are described only as two black males.

The deputy was not injured in the incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant S. Murdock and Senior Police Officer B. Evans reported:

An off-duty Harris County Sheriff's Office (HCSO) deputy was working an extra job checking various convenience stores within the city limits of Houston.  The deputy was inside a Valero gas station at the above address when he saw two black males with masks, hoodies and handguns enter the store with the apparent intent to rob it.  The suspects then saw the deputy and raised their weapons in his direction.  Fearing for his life and the safety of the store clerk, the deputy discharged his duty weapon at the suspects, but did not strike them.  Both suspects then fled out of the store with the deputy pursuing them on foot.

The deputy again engaged the suspects in the parking lot and discharged his duty weapon, but it is not believed, at that time, the suspects were struck.  Both suspects fled on foot down Rosslyn Street and got into a waiting tan or beige vehicle of unknown make or model, and fled down Nina Lee.  Neither the HCSO deputy nor the store clerk was injured.  A weapon and several live rounds dropped by the suspect were recovered at the scene.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide Division.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
