Investigation into Fatal Crash at 300 North Loop East


July 7, 2016 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 300 North Loop East (North Interstate Highway 610) at about 10:50 p.m. on Wednesday (July 6).

The identity of the male victim, 39, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Roque and Officer A. Hart reported:

Witnesses called police after following a brown Chevrolet dually pickup truck traveling very slowly and erratically westbound on the North Loop.  As the witnesses followed the truck, a blue Buick LeSabre drove up from behind and struck the truck and then a white Toyota SUV.  The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene.  Five passengers in the Buick were transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  None of the passengers was wearing a safety belt.  One of the passengers stated the victim had been driving the Buick erratically at a high rate of speed.  The driver of the Chevrolet fled on foot following the crash and the vehicle was found to have been recently stolen. 

The investigation is continuing.
