Investigation into Fatal Shooting at 12300 Gulf Freeway

July 11, 2016 - Houston police are investigating the fatal shooting of a man found at 12300 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 1:35 a.m. on Saturday (July 9).

The victim, Geovanni Jesus Rios, 18, of Pasadena, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Officers R. Klementich and C. Hogue reported:

An HPD Clear Lake Patrol officer was driving through the parking lot at the above address when he saw a white Chevrolet Tahoe with a large crowd gathered around it.  The officer stopped to investigate and found a young male (Mr. Rios) had been shot.

A preliminary investigation determined the Tahoe, with Rios as a back seat passenger, had been traveling northbound on the Gulf Freeway service road when it was struck by gunfire from an unknown location.  The driver of the Tahoe pulled into the parking lot at the above address after Rios was wounded and fled the scene. Further investigation and evidence obtained by officers determined two additional vehicles were driving in front of the Tahoe.  Investigators believe a rear back seat passenger of the second vehicle fired shots at the Tahoe and fatally shot Rios.

The suspect vehicle is described only as possible four-door sedan of unknown color, make or model.

Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
