HPD Homicide Division Sergeant N. Ruland and Officers R. Ridel and K. Ferguson reported:

A citizen went to the HPD Broadway Square Storefront to report shots being fired at an apartment complex across the street near building #5.  Two officers drove across to the complex and split up around building 5.  A tenant pointed in the direction of where gunshots were heard and the officers walked in that direction.  One of the officers saw a black male in a blue shirt come out onto a 2nd floor patio.  The officer asked the male to show his hands.  The male refused and when he turned sideways, the officer saw the male holding a gun.  The officer saw the male then go back into the apartment.

Moments later, the officer heard a loud bang.  The officer believed the suspect fired a shot at him through the a bedroom window near the patio.  The officer took cover and then saw the suspect run from the apartment.  Arriving officers apprehended suspect in the front parking lot of the complex.

Officers recovered a TEC-9 semiautomatic pistol in the suspect's apartment.  The weapon matched the description provided by the officer who saw the suspect holding the gun.
