Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 5400 North Freeway


May 16, 2016 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash that occurred at 5400 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) about 1:05 a.m. on Saturday (May 14).  

The suspect, Edin Palacios (H/m, 26), is charged with murder and evading arrest in the 184th State District Court.  A photo of suspect Palacios is attached to this news release.  

The female victim, 18, was pronounced dead at the scene.  Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Pate and Officer B. Collins reported:  

HPD patrol officers attempted to stop a white Ford F-150 pickup truck, driven by Palacios, believed to be intoxicated.  Palacios fled from police and then ran a red light at the intersection of the North Freeway and Tidwell where he struck a black Dodge Charger.  The female passenger in the Dodge died at the scene.  The male driver of the Dodge was transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital with broken bones and internal injuries.  Palacios was taken into custody at the scene and then transported to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital in stable condition.
