Investigation into Fatal Crash at 5800 Chimney Rock


May 16, 2016 - Houston police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred at 5800 Chimney Rock at about 6:25 a.m. on Sunday (May 15).  

The female victim, 19, was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.  Her identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Ross and Officer E. Rubio reported:  

The victim was walking eastbound and crossing Chimney Rock, not at a designated crosswalk, when she was struck by a white Nissan Sentra traveling southbound on Chimney Rock.  The driver of the Nissan did not stop and fled the scene.  The victim was then transported by HFD paramedics to the hospital.  

The vehicle was later located abandoned at 6700 Dashwood after it struck an apartment wall.  The owner of the vehicle was questioned at the scene and released.  The driver remains at large.
