Investigation into Fatal Crash at 3601 Memorial Drive

May 16, 2016 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 3601 Memorial Drive at about 7:40 p.m. last Friday (May 13).

The male victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Pate and Officer L. Galvan reported:

The driver of a four-door, dark-colored sedan of unknown make and model was traveling eastbound in the 3600 block of Memorial when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle.  The vehicle went off the roadway, down an embankment and into the bayou.  Witnesses jumped into the water and tried to get the male out of the vehicle but were unable to open the door or break the window before the vehicle sunk into the bayou.  The HPD Dive Team responded to the scene and after an extensive search, located and recovered the vehicle, with the victim inside, on Sunday (May 15).

The investigation is continuing.
