Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 18800 Gulf Freeway


May 23, 2016 - Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in a fatal crash that occurred at 18800 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) at about 2:20 a.m. on Sunday (May 22).

The suspect, Anthony Saul Arredondo (H/m, 36), is charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #16.  A photo of Arredondo is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim, 43, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Pate and Officer R. Romo reported:

The victim was driving southbound on the Gulf Freeway when he was involved in a minor accident with another vehicle.  The victim had exited his car and was in the moving lanes of traffic - taking photographs of the crash - when he was struck by a silver Toyota Camry driven by Arredondo, also traveling southbound on the Gulf Freeway.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  Arredondo, who remained at the scene, exhibited signs of intoxication and was arrested.  The investigation is continuing.
