UPDATE: Suspect Charged in Fatal Shooting at 6027 Ettrick


May 31, 2016 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 6027 Ettrick Drive about 11 a.m. on Sunday (May 29).

The suspect, Julius Merchant (b/m, 18), is charged with capital murder in the 209th State District Court.  He is accused in the killing of David Macias, 59, of the above address.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Brady and Officer T. Ferguson reported:

Patrol officers received a call regarding a possible home invasion and shooting at a residence at the above address.  Officers and paramedics arrived and found that Mr. Macias had been shot and his wife, 57, had been pistol-whipped and attacked.  Both victims were transported to the hospital for their injuries.  Mr. Macias was later pronounced dead and the female was treated and released. 

The suspect was only described as a black male believed to be in his early 20s.

Further investigation led to the identity of a person of interest, a known male wanted on a previous charge of felony evading arrest.  The male, Merchant, was arrested by HPD SWAT officers at an east Houston motel on Sunday (May 30).
