Investigation into Man's Death at 61 Riesner


September 6, 2016 - Houston police are investigating the death of man following an apparent medical episode at 61 Riesner Street about 5:15 a.m. on Monday (Sept. 5).

The man, Willie Ray Wright, 58, was pronounced dead at Ben Taub General Hospital.  An autopsy performed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences revealed Wright died as a result of a large blood clot in his lungs. 

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant C. Hassig and Officer W. Huff reported:

Mr. Wright was an inmate on the fifth floor of the Houston Police Central Jail at the above address when he appeared to have a medical episode, causing him to collapse to the ground.  Jail medical staff began providing care to Wright until HFD paramedics arrived and transported him to the hospital, where he died a few hours later.  


As is customary when an individual dies in the presence of HPD personnel, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions.
