Investigation into Shooting at 7900 Wolfield

February 9, 2017 - An incident in which a resident fired shots at a burglary suspect in the 7900 block of Wolfield about 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday (February 8) will be referred to a Harris County grand jury.

The suspect, Malek Sims, 28, has a pending charge of theft.  A photo of suspect Sims is not available for release at this time.

The male shooter was not injured in the incident.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Semmelrock and Senior Police Officer M. Stahlin reported:

The homeowner, an off-duty Harris County Precinct 7 deputy constable, was inside his residence and heard someone kicking at his back door.  He then saw two black male suspects at the back door looking into the residence.  He armed himself and  yelled at the suspects, who ran away from the door.  The homeowner then saw one of the suspects at the back corner of his residence and yelled for him to get on the ground.  The suspect instead turned toward the homeowner.  Fearing he might have a weapon, the homeowner fired his weapon but did not strike the suspect.  The suspect was later taken into custody without incident by responding HPD patrol officers.

The investigation is continuing.
