January 17, 2017 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 100 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 9:05 a.m. today (Jan. 17).

The identity of the deceased male victim, 26, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Lopez and Officer J. Perrotte reported:

The victim was standing outside his disabled vehicle, a black Nissan Frontier, in an area where the Katy Freeway and the North Freeway merge.  Two vehicles, a white box truck and a red Fiat 500, entered the North Freeway southbound from the Katy Freeway eastbound.  At that time, the driver of the box truck failed to control its speed, veered right and struck the Fiat.  The box car then struck a metal rail, a concrete barrier and then the victim.  Paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

The driver of the Fiat was not injured.

The male driver, 42, of the box truck was questioned and did not show any signs of intoxication.  The investigation is continuing.
