Investigation into incident at 15950 Southwest Freeway

January 23, 2017 - Houston police are investigating the incident in which an off-duty Houston police officer discharged his duty weapon at a suspect at 15950 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) at about 2:35 p.m. on Sunday (January 23).
Officer D. Turner, who discharged his weapon, was not injured in this incident.  Officer Turner is assigned to the Robbery Division and was sworn in as an officer in April 2008.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant N. Rosenblatt and Officer N. Sharp reported:

Officer Turner was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle southbound on the Southwest Freeway service road near the intersection of Crabb River Road in Sugar Land, Texas and attempting to turn left.  As the officer made the turn, his vehicle was struck by the suspect, driving a Honda Civic.  Shortly after the collision, the suspect produced a firearm, while both vehicles were stuck in traffic.  Officer Turner perceived this as a deadly threat and discharged his weapon one time at the suspect's vehicle.  The suspect then fled the scene northbound on the Southwest Freeway service road.  It is unknown if the suspect was struck.

The suspect is described only as a white or Hispanic male driving an older-model Honda Civic with a two-tone turquoise paint job.

As is customary in officer-involved shooting incidents, this case is being investigated by the HPD Homicide and Internal Affairs Divisions, as well as the Sugar Land Police Department.
