Suspect Charged in 2009 Shooting at 6114 Renwik


July 24, 2017 - A suspect has been charged in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 6114 Renwick at 6:15 p.m. on December 5, 2009.

The suspect, Juan Rojas, Jr.  (H/m, 33), is charged with murder in the 209th State District Court.  He is currently incarcerated at the Texas Department of Correction (TDC) Allred Unit in Iowa Park, Texas.

Rojas is accused in the killing of Avilio Martinez, 16.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant G. Gonzales and Detective J. Sosa reported:

Mr. Martinez was visiting the Napoleon Square Apartments at the above address when he was approached by an unknown suspect and was shot multiple times.  He was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Further investigation identified Rojas as a suspect in this case and he was arrested and charged with murder in 2010.  However, the case was dismissed in 2011 for a lack of evidence by the Harris County District Attorney's Office.

On July 18, 2017, HPD homicide investigators met with Rojas again at which time he confessed to his role in the incident.  He had also written a letter while incarcerated confessing to his involvement in the case.
