Investigation into Fatal Crash at 9900 Southwest Freeway


May 1, 2017 - HOUSTON - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 9900 Southwest Freeway (South U.S. Highway 59) about 8:50 p.m. on Friday (April 28).

The male driver, 86, was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Kopulos and Officer J. Glenn reported:

The victim was driving a white Jeep SUV northbound at the above address when he possibly suffered a medical episode and failed to maintain a single lane, struck an exit guard barrier head-on, then crossed all lanes of traffic before stopping on the shoulder of the west side of the freeway. 

The driver and a female passenger, 85, were transported to a hospital where the driver was pronounced deceased.  The passenger suffered non life-threatening injuries. 

The investigation is continuing.
