Update: Charges Upgraded in 2016 Shooting at 4600 Balkin


October 12, 2017 - Charges have been upgraded against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman that occurred at 4600 Balkin Street about 3 p.m. on October 21, 2016.  

The suspect, M. L. Burks (b/m, 58), is charged with murder in the 179th State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Rhonda Davis, 58, of Houston.

HPD Homicide Division Officer D. Nabors reported:  

On October 21, HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and found Ms. Davis had been shot.  She was transported by HFD paramedics to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.  Doctors pronounced her deceased on July 23, 2017.  

Further investigation and witness statements identified Burks as the suspect in this case.  He was taken in to custody on December 13, 2016 and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 179th State District Court.  

Doctors pronounced Davis deceased on July 23, 2017.  An autopsy by the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office determined her cause of death to be from a gunshot wound.  On Monday (October 9), the charge of aggravated assault was upgraded to murder.  

Burks remains in custody in the Harris County Jail.
