Investigation into Fatal Crash at 16000 Eastex Freeway


September 14, 2017 - Houston police are investigating a fatal crash at 16000 Eastex Freeway (North U.S. Highway 59) about 1 a.m. today (Sept. 14).

The identity of the deceased male victim, 40, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia and Officer D. Henley reported:

The victim was driving a brown Ford F-150 pickup truck when he stopped with the hazard warning lights on at the above address.  An 18-wheeler, whose driver did not see the pickup truck in a poorly lit area of the freeway, struck the pickup truck from behind.  The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured nor did he show visible signs of intoxication.  He consented to a blood draw with results pending.

The investigation is continuing.
