Investigation into Fatal Crash at 12300 Gulf Freeway

September 20, 2017 - An elderly man critically injured in a crash at 12300 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) about 4:30 a.m. on September 14 has died.

The victim, Federico Ablog, 77, was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Hospital on Sunday (Sept. 17).

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Hall and Officer C. Sartor reported:

A Houston Fire Department ambulance was dispatched to the above address to treat persons involved in a crash.  As the ambulance arrived at the scene, it was rear-ended by a silver Toyota Corolla driven by Mr. Ablog.  The force of the collision pushed the ambulance into two disabled vehicles involved in the previous crash.

The driver of one of the disabled vehicles was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Ablog was flown by Life Flight Helicopter to the hospital in critical condition.  Two HFD paramedics were transported to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center and were later released.

The investigation is continuing.
