Update: Suspects Sought in 2016 Fatal Shooting at 12600 Dunla

Feburary 13, 2018 - Houston police are asking for the public’s help in locating three suspects responsible for the fatal shooting of a man at 12600 Dunlap about 6 p.m. on September 11, 2016.

The suspects are described only as two black males, 25 to 30 years of age, and one black female. One male is about 6 feet tall and has tattoos on his neck and goes by the name of "D-Lo.".  He had short hair at the time of the incident.  The second male is between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall, light-skinned complexion and possibly goes by the name of "Red."  The female is believed to be married to one of the suspects.   All three are believed to frequent the area where the shooting occurred.

The victim Deontra Dontell Smith, 37, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Officers K. Fregia and K. Ferguson reported:

Mr. Smith got into an altercation in the parking lot of the Pines of Westbury Apartments at the above address.  Witnesses reported hearing several gunshots and then saw Smith run through the complex before he collapsed on a sidewalk in the complex.  Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced him deceased.

Further investigation and witness statements determined one of the male suspects exited a dark-colored SUV, possibly a Chevy Trailblazer, and the other male suspect exited a black Camaro.  Both suspects started shooting at Smith as he ran from them.  Other witnesses stated the female suspect was seen sitting in the black Camaro and had a verbal altercation with Smith prior to him being ambushed and shot in the back.

Anyone with information in this case or on the identities of the suspects is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222- TIPS.
