Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 4400 North Freeway

July 18, 2018 - Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 4400 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) service road about 2:30 p.m. on Monday (July 16).

The suspect, Jose Gilberto Rodriguez (H/m, 46), is charged with capital murder in the 232nd State District Court.  A photo of Rodriguez, courtesy of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, is attached to this news release.

The victim, Edward Magana, 57, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives N. Sharp and C. Sharp reported:

Rodriguez entered the business at the above address and fatally shot an employee, Mr. Magana.  Rodriguez then stole Magana's gray Nissan Sentra from the parking lot and fled the scene.

Further investigation led to the identification of Rodriguez as a suspect in this case and, on Tuesday (July 17), he was arrested by Harris County Sheriff's deputies.
